On the 9th of May, the Dutch and Algerian Ministers of Foreign Affairs signed a cooperation agreement on trade, migration, security and local government.

One of the paragraphs relates to cooperation between the Algerian Ministry of Interior, VNG International and The Hague Academy for Local Governance to strengthen the capacities of the Algerian provinces and municipalities in the field of management, local economic development and participation.

Minister Blok from the Netherlands mentioned in his speech that he was pleased The Hague Academy of Local Governance will organise this year a Shiraka-training on Local Governance exclusively for Algerian participants. The course will consist of two training parts, with in-between work on Back Home Action Plans and online coaching. The focus will be on study visits to Dutch institutions and projects and an exchange of practical knowledge. A delegation of VNG International and The Hague Academy for Local Governance will visit Algiers in June 2018 to further discuss the needs and wishes of the Ministry and possible activities.
