Klara Claessens

Klara has expertise in sustainable territorial development, land governance and natural resource governance with a focus on Central Africa. Before joining The Hague Academy, Klara worked as the coordinator of an international and interdisciplinary master program in Sustainable Development at KU Leuven, and as a teaching assistant in Development Studies at the Institute for Development Policy, University of Antwerp. In these functions,  Klara was involved in the coordination and implementation of several interdisciplinary research and education programs. She was involved in projects on land governance and land conflicts (South Kivu – DRC and Burundi), conservation governance (South Africa) and eco-tourism (Vietnam). She also worked for Enabel in Rwanda in the sector of renewable energy.  Klara holds a PhD in Development Studies (University of Antwerp), an advanced master in Governance and Development (University of Antwerp) and a master in African Studies (University of Ghent). She is fluent in Dutch, English and French.
