Good leadership by local authorities has three core dimensions: developing a vision, managing services and communicating with internal and external stakeholders. Especially with limited human and financial resources it is crucial to have a clear strategy for development and to manage the organisation effectively. In order to accomplish your ambitions, you also need the cooperation and participation of all actors involved, outside and inside the city hall. You need competent and motivated civil servants whom you can trust and who trust you. Clear structures for communication and information, finances and accountability will help you with this.
This Leadership and Municipal Management course answers questions like: How do you develop a vision for your municipality and make it reality? How can you involve different stakeholders? And how can you manage your administration effectively? Topics that will be addressed are the development of organisational and human resources and the use of financial management systems, planning arrangements, evaluation tools and performance based management. During interactive sessions you will learn about the Leadership Benchmark as a comprehensive tool for improving leadership in local government.
This course will help you:
- develop and implement a clear and inspiring vision for your organisation and community;
- mobilise relevant stakeholders, including national and regional governments, international organisations and local NGOs and citizens;
- provide leadership for your civil servants;
- enhance good governance aspects such as transparancy, accountability and integrity;
- improve management structures in your organisation in the field of finances, information and communication, human resources and accountability.
The course fee is € 2.890,-. This includes all training-related costs, as well as drinks, lunches, training materials and travel during the training programme. Travel to and from The Hague and accommodation is not included. The course language is English.
