Reliable local services, inclusive local policies and effective partnerships within local communities are crucial to achieve stability and promote sustainable development.

It is important, therefore, that leaders at the local level demonstrate responsibility, responsiveness and a clear vision for the future. Moreover, they need skilled people to manage and deliver services in a transparent and effective way. At the same time, citizens should have the knowledge and skills to express their needs and hold their governments accountable.

The Hague Academy for Local Governance aims to develop the knowledge and skills of practitioners from governments, civil society and development organisations. With our programmes, we respond to the fast growing need for training that is truly practice oriented. We are convinced that they will help governments and their citizens to become more self-reliant and take responsibility for their own development.
