Maurits contributes to the preparation and implementation of multiple training programmes focusing on local governance and e-governance in the MENA region. He also contributes to the MATRA programme in eastern Europe. Maurits has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Groningen, a minor degree in political science from the Canadian Université de Sherbrooke, a master’s in Global Conflict, and a master’s in Russian and Eurasian Studies, both from the University of Leiden. Maurits has working experience in Ukraine, France, Switzerland and The Netherlands. He specialises in conflict studies, notably in the former Soviet Union. Before joining The Hague Academy, Maurits managed a language school in Switzerland and did a traineeship with VNG Connect, for which he worked at the city council of The Hague and the municipality of Groningen. Maurits is fluent in Dutch, English, French and German, and speaks Russian at a B1 level.
