Hajara Maizabo Lawal

My work for Keffi Local Government
“Keffi District is only 60 kilometres away from the capital of Nigeria, Abuja and forms part of Nasarawa state. Agriculture is the most important economical activity in the region. Keffi District counts about 100.000 inhabitants.”

“I work as an accounting officer at Keffi Local Government and I am responsible for coordinating the Finance and Supplies Departments. This department is considered to be the backbone of the Local Council.”

Experiences in the Netherlands
“The training course “Fiscal Decentralisation and Local Finances” has given me theoretical insight on how to create a vision to demonstrate inspiring and motivational leadership principles, techniques and a good social system for economic growth and development. Both the theory and the practical aspect of the course can be readily applicable to the situation in my local council but it has to be taken gradually.”

“During my internship at Municipality of Assen, I have met wonderful people and felt myself at home there. I have learned a lot of new things and have seen the degree of transparency and accountability of public services in The Netherlands. The Hanze Institute of Technology is one of the most interesting and spectacular things I have seen in Assen.”

Back Home Action Plan
“Experience that I gained after visiting The Netherlands will definitely impact my local community. I shall share my knowledge with my employer on the issue of decision making, participatory budget plans and implementations. Good governance is the empowerment of people through the empowerment of the local public sector. I would like to ask workshops for employees in my local council to come up with good plans on how to strengthen good governance in Keffi. This knowledge should enlighten people in my municipality and the new ideas will help the community.”
