A high-level delegation from Yemen’s Ministry of Water and Environment, led by His Excellency Tawfiq AbdulWahid Ali Al-Shargabi, visited the Netherlands to explore innovative and sustainable water security solutions. The 16-member delegation, hosted by The Hague Academy for Local Governance, focused on desalination and other critical measures to address water challenges in Aden and beyond.
The visit was organized in close collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Yemen and supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen to the Netherlands. Tailored to Yemen’s pressing water needs, the programme aimed to strengthen the Ministry’s technical expertise and decision-making capacity while establishing a roadmap for sustainable desalination projects in Southern Yemen.

This visit was made possible as part of the Shiraka programme, commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). As the delegation of Yemen’s Ministry of Water and Environment currently continues working on a roadmap development, The Hague Academy’s training team is actively supporting them in a series of online workshops. In the second and final phase of the programme, the roadmap document and workflows are to be presented to a broader audience of Ministries, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Yemen, as well as to potential donors and partners.
