Building Teachers Capacities for Participatory Inclusive TVET Education for Refugee Students and Vulnerable Youth in Jordan

Luminus Technical University College (LTUC) is a TVET school in Jordan building on strong labour market linkages and hosting a population of around 8000 students a year mainly from Jordan, Palestine and Syria. One of the challenges schools face is the high dropout rates, mainly among refugee students during their studies and in the application process.

By implementing recommendations from a thorough assessment of the admission procedure and providing vulnerable youth (national and non-national) with more participatory, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive teaching, retention will improve, and the number of dropouts during admission, studies, and employment will decrease. This will result in more (refugee) students graduating and accessing the labour market contributing to the stability of Jordan.

To reach the objective, a selected group of 18 (Master) teachers from different departments and career counselors were trained on various topics, like online facilitation, adult & brain-based learning, trauma-sensitive teaching.

During this training, the trainer designated a group of 6 teachers as Master teachers, responsible for rolling out the training program to other teachers at LTUC. By training teachers to deliver more participatory and inclusive teaching, students will be better able to reach their learning objectives and complete their studies.
