Inclusive Local Economic Development in Somalia

The training programme will contribute to the wider goal of the programme in Garowe and Gardho, Puntland, to improve policies, decision-making and services for durable economic growth.

This will be done by strengthening public leadership in local authorities, empowering youth affected by a lack of economic opportunities, and enhancing intergovernmental coordination for economic development. The two-year action-oriented training programme consists of multiple activities.

The training topics consist of the following:

• Local Economic Development (LED) – frameworks and objectives;
• Value chain development;
• Entrepreneurship development;
• The LED-promotion process;
• Roles and responsibilities of the LED-forum and its stakeholders;
• Economic assessment of the districts;
• Training of Trainers;
• Designing a common vision and setting objectives to reach that vision;
• Designing an organisational action plan that supports the functioning of the LED forum
