King Saud University Study Visit – Urban Governance and Development

The “King Saud University Study Visit Urban Governance and Development” took place in the Netherlands in 2024.

The Hague Academy for Local Governance organised a two-week training on Urban Governance and Local Development to complement and support the Diploma program of the King Saud Umiversityt in Urban Planning and Design for civil servants.

These two weeks include 5 days of field visits organised by VNGI on the same training topics delivered by THA. The beneficiaries of this study visit were 21 civil servants of municipalities in Saudi Arabia, following the Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Planning and Design at the KSU. The programme has 180 students and the students joining the study visit are amongst the top of their class.

The training programme and study visit were on ‘Urban Governance and Local Development’. The main topics of the training course were: Integrated urban strategies, Municipal Financing of Urban development, Participatory and Inclusive Urban Design, Project Planning and Delivery of Large Scale Urban Projects, Sustainability and nature-based solutions, Placemaking, cityscape and design of urban parks.
