Project Management Courses in Curaçao and Sint Maarten

The Hague Academy for Local Governance implemented the Project Management course as part of the National Packages for Curaçao and Sint Maarten. This took the form of a training program that balanced theory and practice, allowing participants to immediately apply the knowledge they gained to their own work.

The objective of the programme was the delivery of a training trajectory on project management to:

  • Create a common language of project management for project leaders and project members
  • Present theories and tools to improve leadership of projects.

A total of 36 project leaders from different ministries were training participants, working on the National Packages (“Landspakketten”) designed to support reforms in Curaçao and St Maarten. The participants varied from lower-level to senior-level project leaders and project members. Secretary Generals also participated in some events. The training trajectory had a hybrid learning setup and ran in parallel in both countries. The activities varied and included:

  • Three days of in-person training about the main elements of ‘project-based creation’, focusing on structure, leadership, teamwork, and stakeholder management
  • Three live online training sessions on different topics related to project management
  • Face-to-face intervision (coaching) with in-country experts to exchange current challenges and successes in their projects
  • Three days of in-person training to learn about new tools and discuss more topics in depth.
