The “Shiraka Water Management 2023-2027” programme takes place every year in two parts, one in the Netherlands and one either online or in a country of the MENA region. This project is funded by Shiraka, a programme commissioned by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). With the Shiraka programme, the Netherlands partners with government organisations in the MENA region in order to cooperate on improvement of public service delivery, while building a network of peers and fostering bilateral relations between the Netherlands and the MENA region.
Specifically the Shiraka Water Management programme gives the opportunity to approximately 25 civil servants from the MENA region each year, to participate in the training programme that has as a main goal to provide those who are working in the field of Water Management with the opportunity to build their knowledge and skills, in turn enabling them to lead and inspire the modernisation of Water Management in their home countries. The course also aims to strengthen participants’ ties with the Netherlands and stakeholders in the Dutch water sector.
The objectives of the training session are the following:
Through sessions delivered by international experts, field visits and practical examples from the Netherlands and the MENA countries, participants gain extensive knowledge in water management. They become aware of the relevance of the relationship between government, private and knowledge institutions.
