The Hague Academy recently led a multi-day leadership skills training focused on supporting stabilisation and local security efforts in Bunia, Eastern Congo.
The training was held in partnership with VNG International and CISPE, a stabilisation programme articulated by MONUSCO (United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
“This is about building trust and providing local security from a governance perspective,” said Samir Marmouri, an expert trainer from The Hague Academy. “Local authorities, in coordination with traditional leaders and civil society actors, are creating community-focused security plans intended to mitigate conflict stemming from land disputes, tribal disagreements, and corruption.”
The training gave special attention to the role and influence of transformative leadership with a focus on the 4 P’s of leadership: power, principles, politics, and personality. “We are guiding the trainees on how best to identify strengths, weaknesses and obstacles to their own leadership style,” said Marmouri.
“The ultimate goal is to encourage decisions that benefit the whole community, especially on social and justice issues.”
The local authorities will now return to their respective communities to implement local security plans. For more about the project, read VNG International’s blog post.
