Improving leadership skills in DR Congo

The Hague Academy for Local Governance has trained the leaders of four different territories in the province of South Kivu in The Democratic Republic of Congo. In this three day training the participants learned more about decentralisation and how to improve their leadership skills.

In this third largest country of Africa, human security is a big issue. By investing in knowledge and skills of the public institutions and the main non-state actors, we hope that trust will be improved. In this training the participants have gained more knowledge about the decentralisation processes and  the stakeholder analysis made it clear to all participants what the roles and responsibilities are of each actor. Furthermore the principles of leadership were discussed and practised. The participants found the means for creative solutions to the challenges they face everyday very enriching and novel.

This training has been executed for VNG International and Cordaid and is part of the programme “Restoring the Contract; increasing human security through state legitimacy and civil participation in Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo”.
