Last week The Hague Academy trained seven young Lebanese professionals who work in or with the local government sector. Subjects that were discussed were amongst others mediation, creative problem solving, managing power, change and stakeholder management. These young talents shared a wide variety of professional backgrounds; some were social workers and others worked in the field of municipal services or urban planning.
The training aimed to provide the participants with:
- Leadership skills to enable them to affect positive change in local governance processes in their local context;
- The ability to identify and engage relevant stakeholders in change processes;
- The recognition of the importance of inclusion, citizen participation and accountability to enable effective local governance.
The participants were really enthusiastic. To quote some of them:

‘Interesting, rich and lively.’
‘Effective training particularly because it is introducing us to leadership and how to be a good leader.’
We wish them all the best with the implementation of their action plans back-home.
