Tailor-made: EU Accession and Decentralisation

Course introduction

This course aims at local, regional and national governments from countries with a perspective on accessing the European Union. Questions addressed in this course are: What does entering the EU mean for local policies in a country and how should national and sub-national governments anticipate? We will discuss how governments can take into account the implications of EU-regulation for their local community, how they can profit from financial support programmes and how they can lobby in Brussels for local interests.

Example of a previous tailor-made course: Albanian mayors prepare for EU Accession

We organised the tailor-made training “Regional Cooperation and EU Accession” for sixteen mayors and the chairman of the regional council of the Dibër Region in Albania. Click here to read more about their visit and how they acquired new insights and ideas for the development of their own region.
