IDEAL – Mali

Through the IDEAL Mali Programme, VNG International supported five pilot municipalities in the implementation of participatory and inclusive planning, as well as the sustainable and integrated management of water resources. This new programme also supported the Association of Municipalities of Mali (AMM) in lobbying and defending the interests of local and regional governments, in order to gain greater political legitimacy and promote local democracy. Improving women’s participation and leadership and promoting good water governance, on the other hand, are essential to ensure equal access to natural resources, social cohesion and prevent conflict.

In 2018, The Hague Academy for Local Governance (THA) joined the programme to provide capacity strengthening materials and sessions.

Objectives

  • Develop and implement inclusive gender responsive governance training for IWRM.
